Take your trash home

This sculpture is conceived as a powerful statement to raise awareness of pollution affecting our oceans and waterways, and to highlight the interactions between marine animals and human-generated waste. Inspired by the book Moby Duck by Donnavan Hohn, which recounts the 1998 incident when a cargo ship accidentally released 28800 bath toys into the sea. These toys were found as far away as Alaska and provided valuable insights to scientists about ocean slipstreams and currents.
Recently a plastic bag has been found in the Mariana Trench under the ocean, the deepest point on our planet far from the reach of humans, this serves as a poignant warning to humanity about the dire consequences of our careless plastic consumption and disposal habits. Aside from the incorporated trash elements the sculpture itself is constructed entirely from scrap glass, employing a range of glass working techniques, including casting, fusing, slumping, and freeze and fuse.
